Medical Biotechnology: “Taking the Next Step” – Innovation to Develop New Treatments “
Thailand has quickly evolved in the region as a pioneer in building robust health capacity, on the forefront in the fight for low-cost and alternative disease solutions. Thailand and the United States have a long history of working in partnership on new vaccine development and testing. As Thailand’s role in the health sector grows, being a regional leader in medical biotechnology will become increasingly essential. The pillar will focus on topics such as developing new drugs and treatments and the processes involved. How can medically valuable compounds be identified earlier. What are the opportunities for developing a medical biotechnology oriented cluster in Chiang Mai and join international collaboration R&D networks and projects?
“Biotechnology in Agriculture: An Innovative Vision for the Future”
The agricultural biotechnology pillar will focus on the opportunity for advancing biotechnology in Thailand to further cement its regional leadership position in the field and major food products exporter. What are the truths and misconceptions about biotechnology? How can field trials be effectively managed and their benefits communicated? How can concerns about biosafety, food safety, and the environment be addressed? Further along the value chain: what are the opportunities for biotechnology in product development? What is the opportunity for Thai researcher and companies to create intellectual property? What are the international R&D collaboration opportunities to strengthen Thailand agricultural and food processing industries?
Medical Systems: “Modernizing Healthcare and Increasing Accessibility”
The medical systems pillar will focus on opportunities for modernizing healthcare and innovative approaches for improved healthcare access and affordability in Thailand. Discussions will cover information technology, medical devices, and best practices. Affordable and replicable practices and tools will be the focus of the discussion. Panelists’ experiences will clarify the establishment of easily-navigated healthcare systems and streamlined, effective administration to ensure widespread access to treatments and information. New developments in medical devices will be another topic. Considering Chiang Mai’s position as a medical and health hub how can the improved medical devices, information and operations systems and processes and services cement this position in the future and increase access and affordability as well open new business and R&D collaboration opportunities.
